EDITORIAL SERVICES

Agents and editor slush piles are mounting. Agent Evan Marshall says his slush pile has increased five times in the past several years. At a recent Writers Retreat Workshop, agent Donald Maass said what writer's need is an additional professional eye who will take a draft manuscript and help them "flesh out the story," create multi-dimensional characters, and create a manuscript an agent can work with. Too many manuscripts with potential are rejected because they aren't ready for agent or editor's eyes.

Writing a novel is so personal that it's nearly impossible for you to be an "objective evaluator" of your own work. To be willing to ask for "honest" feedback from a pro is an important step in a writer's career. If you feel ready for an in-depth analysis of your work, if you have reached that moment when you'd rather know than not know what is or is not working in your novel, and--more importantly--why, then the WRW Manuscript Evaluation Service is exactly what you need.

About the Editorial Services

After you've arranged for your WRW manuscript evaluation, you'll be sent a copy of Gary Provost's highly acclaimed AUDIO NOVEL WORKSHOP. While your editor reads and diagnoses your manuscript, listen to the tapes as often as you can. If you do, you'll be better prepared to process the feedback you'll receive in our report.

With a 15-30 page personal evaluation, we'll point out any problems dealing with such craft elements as plotting, pacing, dialogue, description, viewpoint, characterization, motivation, style, etc. Along with identifying weaknesses of the submitted draft, we will also offer suggestions for how to convert those weaknesses into strengths in your re-write. Since all plot elements are examined carefully, the evaluation might reveal to you that your manuscript has a major structural flaw, or is in dire need of having stakes raised, motivation increased, suspense extended, viewpoint switched, etc. You'll discover that we hammer home our points, sometimes by discussion, sometimes by example, sometimes by re-writing. Our report also will address how to best approach the marketplace when your manuscript is re-written and ready for submission to an agent.

Here Are Some Comments From Recent Clients

"Jason, I value the expert and precise editing you provided as we worked on my non-fiction manuscript, Heaven…It's Not in the Sky. Suggestions improved the flow and precision of the material. You have a great ability to make wording more concise and effective. I appreciate that you always responded in a timely manner. It was a pleasure to work with you on this project. Thank you. I look forward to working with you again."

"I've paid for a dozen readings and evaluations over the years, but none compared... It was thorough, thoughtful and inspiring. Reading the detailed analysis was like attending a one-on-one WRITERS RETREAT WORKSHOP. . . suggestions rang like a bell of truth, and I don't believe I ignored one of them during the ensuing rewrite."
-- John, NJ

"What was easy to acknowledge intellectually felt gut-wrenchingly personal the first time I read through the 35 page evaluation of my manuscript. . . It took several months of gestation but one morning I realized the truth of their critique and the wisdom of their many solid suggestions."
-- Wes, CA

"[The] manuscript evaluation was worth every penny and more. . . detailed story evaluation and line editing have shown me the light, and I've incorporated the suggestions every step of the way in my final rewrite. I just wish I'd done this after my first rewrite, rather than after my third."
-- John, CA

"My book was a consistent start-stop project for three years. In less than four months I went from not knowing Jason to trusting his judgment based on great communication, creativity and wonderful writing skills. I give Jason the highest marks and recommendation possible."

"After an agent's letter of rejection, I didn't know how to fix my manuscript and thought about giving up writing. Fortunately, as a gesture of last hope, I sent the manuscript off to WRW for an evaluation. They gave it to me. . . 39 single-spaced pages that overwhelmed me for a moment, and then I got to work. . . . Their understanding and response was terrific. . . . I'm re-inspired and writing again."
-- Mary Sue, MD

"Few organizations have achieved an excellence that surpasses their advertising. WRW does... detailed recommendations and suggested editorial changes have restructured the book, increased its pace, sharpened its story. . . in every way, surpassed my expectations."
-- Mal, CA
