Jason S. Sitzes
Director

Jason attended his first WRW in 1998 and was awarded the Gary Provost Scholarship for the year 2000. He joined the staff in 2001, and assumed the title of Director for the 2003 workshop.

Departing from the publishing corporate ranks, Jason began freelancing as a writer and editor based out of New Orleans. After several years in the Big Easy, Jason now lives in Louisville, KY only an hour from his birthplace of Columbus, IN. He has a creative writing degree from the University of Tennessee and is the author of award-winning short fiction, as well as the director of the internationally acclaimed Writers Retreat Workshop.

Always working on some sort of personal project (novel, short stories, watching basketball), Jason has edited dozens of manuscripts for published and not-yet-published writers, and worked one-on-one with hundreds of writers over the past eight years through workshops and classes (including serving as staff editor for more than a dozen literary agent Donald Maass Breakout Novel Intensive workshops).

In addition, Jason works as a ghostwriter of both fiction and nonfiction.  Projects include GLASS HALF FULL AND FROZEN, with entrepreneur Ed DuCoin; SET ‘EM UP JOE, with Dino Pavlou ; and MY LIFE AS SINATRA, with Cary Hoffman (currently an off-Broadway NYC production).  Other non-fiction projects include work with Alt Weekly newspapers interviewing local leaders and comedians such as Louis CK, Paula Poundstone and Robert Kline. Jason is schooled in all aspects of writing, with a particular focus on the process itself—how we work and how our choices work for us.

Recent ghostwriting/co-authorship projects include:

The Glass Is Half Full and Frozen: Fiction/business book in the vein of Og Mandino with Philadelphia Business Hall of Fame member and Success Magazine featured entrepreneur, Ed DuCoin.

Memoir with Dino Pavlou. An American Dream; from immigrant war orphan to New York celebrity circles. Calling celebrities such as Sinatra, Audie Murphy, and Anthony Quinn friends for over three decades, Dino's story is a gripping adventure of a violent childhood in Greece, living in celebrity circles of 60's and 70's New York City, and a young man who embraced America's promises.

A memoir of Cary Hoffman, New York comedy club owner (Stand Up New York) and entertainer who after years of depression and business/personal failures found himself only once he "became" Frank Sinatra. (currently an off-Broadway NYC production)

Editorial projects include a medical thriller novel Reign of the Rat (author Dr. Gil Smolin), a nonfiction book about religion and politics authored by Dr. Joe Simonetta (Harvard Divinity School graduate), and dozens of other manuscript evaluation projects with promising authors (you can find him in the acknowledgement pages of many novels at any given moment).

Having studied closely with accomplished writers and industry professionals regionally, and making close contacts through WRW, his goal at the workshop is to help guide writers from all backgrounds closer to whatever goals and objectives they bring to our workshops and retreats.

"WRW is a working environment, unequaled in my conference/workshop experience. Attendees should expect tremendous growth in all aspects of the art and craft. Here, you are expected to take this gift of storytelling seriously. Expect hard work, fun, laughs, relaxation, and a commitment to excellence from our staff and our returning students. You won't forget it."

"My book was a consistent start-stop project for three years. In less than four months I went from not knowing him to trusting his judgment based on great communication, creativity and wonderful writing skills. I give Jason the highest marks and recommendation possible." --Edward DuCoin, Philadelphia Wharton Grad, Entrepreneur, NASCAR team owner, Member of Philadelphia Business Journal Hall of Fame, featured in Success Magazine and other business publications.

"I recently had the opportunity to work with Jason and found him to be a creative, talented editor who excels at making useful suggestions regarding story line and characterization. I found his ideas and prodding essential to significantly improving my novel, Reign of the Rat. My publisher agreed. We plan to work with him on concurrent novels. In addition, working with Jason opened up new paths that were exciting and fun to explore." --Dr. Gil Smolin, San Francisco, Reign of the Rat.

"Jason, I greatly value the expert and precise editing you provided as we worked on my non-fiction manuscript, Heaven…It's Not in the Sky. Your suggestions improved the flow and precision of the material. You have a great ability to make wording more concise and effective. I appreciate that you always responded in a timely manner. It was a pleasure to work with you on this project. The end product was improved markedly from your various contributions. Thank you. I look forward to working with you again."
